Actually of course, this is not the universe but it is a nebula (P0410AB). It is though, a good example of how the universe itself might look and it shows that these shapes do occur in outer space.
According to latest discoveries, our ever expanding universe seems to have the same flattened shape as a Galaxy; an egg shaped center drifting in a turbulent sea like an Egg of Brahm.
