The Sumerian god Enlil was considered 'the King of the Gods', but he, the king of the gods, was banished to the world of the dead by the "assembly of the gods" (the Elohim) for having "raped" the grain goddess Ninlil (Mu-liltu, Lady Lillith), his intended bride, although she wasn't completely averse to his advances. Some say that she seduced him. Anyway, Enlil had impregnated the goddess of fertility way to soon. To let him witness the birth of his own child, Ninlil decided to follow him to the world of the dead, where she gave birth to the moongod Sin. This thoughtless decision could have obliged the new-born moon to be imprisoned forever there. So Enlil changed himself into three underworld gods connected with passage to the afterlife. They each mated with Ninlil while she was descending into the world of the dead. The new children that were to be born, to wit; Nergal, future god of Hades, Ninazu Lord Azu (Osiris; god of the underworld) and Enbilulu; Marduk/Nibiru, (Asaluhi) were to remain in the underworld. Thus, their child, the moon god Sin could finally ascend the heavens in order to light the night sky. A whole cult was build around this story, which was the reason Abraham, who followed an other god than Enlil, left Sumer.
