Most Christians claim that Jesus is the only way to God and do so because the Church tells them so, because they say, Jesus said so himself;

Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me. John 14;6 RSV

This of course would rule out all other religions.

But he went on;

If you had knowledge of me, you would have knowledge of my Father: you have knowledge of him now and have seen him. Philip said to him, Lord, let us see the Father, and we have need of nothing more. Jesus said to him, Philip, have I been with you all this time, and still you have no knowledge of me? He who has seen me has seen the Father. Why do you say, Let us see the Father? John 14;8 BBE

See, said the Church; Jesus is God.

But they ignored what he said earlier....

Have you not faith that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words which I say to you, I say not from myself: but the Father who is in me all the time does his works.  John 14;7 BBE

It is God who spoke through Christ, it is God who inspired and guided him with his Spirit,

and it is God who said in the Old Testament;

I, even I, am the Lord; and there is no saviour but me. Isa 43:11

It is God who is our Savior through Jesus our King. Jesus is his last and most important intermediator, an Avatar like Krishna before him. Perhaps this is why they had such similar lives and spoke the same words. If they are all the same; if they are all of the same Spirit, which they apparently are, no one of them would be chosen above an other, but instead, all great religions lead to the same One God.

There are two layers of religion: One is the basic fundamental [ideas], and the other one consists of superficial ritual exercises. If you go to the basis -- speaking truth, being honest, being compassionate, loving thy neighbor -- these are common to all religions. The differences are superficial; one may have a different hairstyle, and one may have some mark on the head. Unfortunately, it is for these superficial differences that people are fighting. Gandhi

We are all small people, and we have made our gods small. The Christian thinks Christ belongs to him. The Hindus think Rama and Krishna belong only to them, and the Muslim thinks Allah belongs to Islam. And so on. But this isn't correct. Once, when Gandhi was asked, "What is your religion?" he said, "Well, I am a Hindu, I am a Muslim, I am a Christian, I am a Sikh -- I follow the basic principles of all religions." Gandhi
