This is because the proteins are transparent. Blood plasma is transparent. (Our blood only turns red because the Hemoglobin in it contains Iron atoms. The blood of Squids, shrimps, crabs and lobsters, instead of Hemoglobin, contains Hemocyanine with Cupper atoms in it, which is why they actually have blue blood.)
