The wicked shall be turned into hell (Sheol), and all the nations that forget God. Ps 9:17

(Sheol). Ps 86:13
Hell

Though they dig into hell
(Sheol), thence shall mine hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down. Am 9:2
And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell
(Sheol) cried I, and thou heardest my voice. Jon 2:2

In the Latin Vulgata, the Old Testamentical Sheol and the New Testamentical Hades are translated with Infernus (being underneath) or Inferus (Those below), a word that usually is translated to English with underworld or Hell. Hell calls up images of blazing fires, but these are more related to Gehenna, the fiery lake where the unconvertible evil souls are destroyed.
