The name is a mystery, some say it is derived from the Latin Metator, a Roman officer and guide, who went ahead of the army to prepare its camp, extended with "on" for power. Kohut identifies Metatron with the Zoroastrian Mithra; but probably only a few traits were borrowed from the latter. Sachs, Grünbaum, Weinstein, and others think that Metatron is identical with Philo's Logos; but L. Cohn, the eminent Philonist, contradicts this view. M. Friedländer, on the other hand, takes Metatron to be, both in name and in nature, none other than Horus, the "frontier guardian" and "surveyor of the frontier" of the early Gnostics. Some say it comes from the Greek Metaturannos; the one next to the ruler. Others say its is gibberish. In other words, they don't know. Metatron is often explained as Greek for; "next to the throne" or "from after the throne". Meta-Thronos however would literally mean; "Beyond the throne", or higher in importance then God, which of course is an impossibillity. All the more since his tabernacle is situated beneath the throne and he himself is standing before the Throne.
And they took Enoch up on to the highest heaven, where the Lord is; and he received him and placed him before his face. 2Enoch67;1 Metatron is Prince over all princes, and stands before him who is exalted above all gods (elohim). He goes beneath the throne of glory, where he has a great heavenly tabernacle of light. App.3Enoch 15B
Strikingly enough, originally the name "Metatron," only occurs in Hebrew
writings,

Now, the Hebrew word Meta; death would miss one
"t", Matat; offering could have something to do with a high-priest, but both
words are spelled with the "ta"

On one hand we have a Metatron who was involved with the creation of the earth (Angel of the Earth, Prince of the World.) and on the other hand there is Enoch who was transformed into the angel Metatron. This apparent contradiction can only be explained if "Metatron" is not a name but a title; a position with a job description, and like one official can be replaced with another, the former Metatron was replaced with a new one. The former Metatron is Satan, who got jealous of Adam. The devil understood how I wished to create another world, so that everything could be subjected to Adam on the earth, to rule and reign over it. 2Enoch 31;2 Satan deceived Adam and lost his job as a result of it, and was kicked out of heaven and replaced with a new Metatron.

Coptic encomium on Michael, attributed to Chrysostom This new Metatron is of course, in a number of aspects, similar to Michael; both angels were known as "the Great Prince"; both were said to serve in the heavenly sanctuary; both were guardian angels of Israel; what is said in one text about Michael is said in another about Metatron. This is because Michael became the new Metatron who replaced Satan the old Metatron. Michael took with him his own duties like being a guardian angel of Israel and serving in the heavenly sanctuary, and gained titles like "Prince or Governor of the World", Prince of all princes, King of Kings because he now was Prince over both the higher things, the realm of the Light, the Day and the Lower things, the dark material world; the Night. Michael/Enki had taken over the powers of Satan/Enlil the former King of the gods. Enki/Michael was born from the higher things; he was a son of Anu/Spirit and Nammu/the primal water. Enlil/Satan though a Son of God, was born from Earth; he was a son of Anu/Spirit and Ki/ Earth. The devil is of the lowest places. And he will become a demon, (by his own doing) because he fled from heaven; Sotona, because his name was Satanail. 2Enoch 31;4
To fully being able to rule and deal with the lower world, it was necessary that this lower world was ruled by a creature from the same lower world. This creature was to become Adam; man.
This has been Gods Plan ever since Anu (Spirit, heaven) and Ki (Earth, matter) were seperated by Enlil (Soul), to "unite together the powers of higher things with lower things"... A plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in Him, things in heaven and things on earth. Eph 1:10. This could only happen if Man was guided by the Spirit of God. A guidance that was provided by means of Michael as his guardian angel. As it happened, Man did rise above the animal state and in one of them was found a suitable candidate to fill in the vacancy left by Satan, namely a devote man called Enoch. "Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away." Genesis 5:24 NIV.

Metatron now is the king of kings and God is the King of the king of kings. In the Kabbalah, Metatron is connected to Kether (Akatriel Yah Yehud, Crown), whose secret name is Ehyeh (Ahyah), which is in fact the name of the Assyrian god Ea, who was the same as the Sumerian god Enki, who is the same as Michael, who is like God.
In the Bible it is Jesus who is called the king of kings. And he said to me, Put in the book, Happy are the guests at the bride-feast of the Lamb. And he said to me, These are the true words of God. And I went on my face before his feet to give him worship. And he said to me, See you do it not: I am a brother-servant with you and with your brothers who keep the witness of Jesus: give worship to God: for the witness of Jesus is the spirit of the prophet's word. And his eyes are a flame of fire, and crowns are on his head; and he has a name in writing, of which no man has knowledge but himself. The first book of Enoch is quoted in the Bible; And to these also Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, Behold, the Lord came with ten thousands of his holy ones, to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their works of ungodliness which they have ungodly wrought, and of all the hard things which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. Metatron is often identified as being the twin brother to Sandalphon, who is said to have been the prophet Elijah who appeared as John the Baptist at the same time as Jesus.

IHWH of Hosts, Holy, Holy, Holy, Apapiron, W(b)edidiron, Gebiriron,
Dapdapiron, Haphapiron, etc etc as if his names covered all the alphabet. Names for Metatron could also end with -ron or -on; Mikon, Miton, Senigron,
Sigron and Mitatron, so it would be logical to split up the name Metatron in
Metat- and -ron.

Metatron is spelled with two "tows"
. The only possible "two
tow" candidate would be the word "Mutat", 
a "u" instead of a Yod,

"i", but these two look very much alike and a hastily written waf could easily
