Hades is the same as the OldTestamentical Sheol and the Egyptian Halls of Amenti, .
Thou wilt not abandon my soul to
Hades,
nor let thy Holy One see corruption. Ac 2:27
For Thou wilt not abandon my soul to the nether-world (Sheol); neither wilt Thou suffer Thy godly one to see the pit. Ps 16:10
He foresaw and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. Ac 2:31
For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale, so will the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. Mt 12:40
(Christ) I died, and behold I am alive for evermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades. Re 1:18
And the sea gave up the dead in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead in them, and all were judged by what they had done. Re 20:13
Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire; and if any one's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. Re 20:14
The lowest region of Hades is the dark Tartaros deep inside the Earth. Hades is a place of confinement where souls of the deceased, who haven't reached a state of enlightenement, await either their reincarnation or their final judgement; the second death.
The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried; and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes, and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus in his bosom. And he called out, 'Father Abraham, have mercy upon me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame.' But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.' Lu 16:22
In the Latin Vulgata, the Old Testamentical Sheol and the New Testamentical Hades are translated with Infernus (being underneath) or Inferus (Those below), a word that usually is translated to English with underworld or Hell. Hell calls up images of blazing fires, but these are more related to Gehenna the fiery lake where the unconvertible evil souls are destroyed.
