This page is about Enoch. According to books, referred to in the Bible, Enoch was guided by Michael and called the Son of Man and altered into an angel.

And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.   Ge 5:24

ENOCH

Enoch (Initiated) is mentioned in the Bible as a devout man, who walked with Elohim; God (or actually; the gods; be it male and female) and was seen no more because he had ascended to heaven. Since his name may be connected to the verb for -to initiate-, he later became "the initiated" endowed with a remarkable insight in the hidden world, the Cosmos and the future. The third book of Enoch identifies Enoch as the Metatron, the angel which communicates God's word. The prophet Enoch, an antediluvian, was supposed to have been the inventor of learning, letters, and the founder of initiatory rites. Among the Arabs and in the Koran, Enoch is commonly called Idrîs, meaning the wise or learned. The name Idrîs may be derived from Eudoreschos, a name for Emmeduranki, who also was the seventh in Antediluvian line of Kings.

Also mention in the Book the case of Idrîs: He was a man of truth (and sincerity, (and) a prophet: And We raised him to a lofty station. Koran Su 19;56

But upon the earth was no man created like Enoch; for he was taken from the earth. Sir 49;14

By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and he was not found, because God translated him: for he hath had witness borne to him that before his translation he had been well-pleasing unto God.  Hebr. 11;5

And he was therefore with the angels of God six jubilees of years. And they showed him everything which is on earth and in the heavens, the dominion of the sun. And he wrote everything, and bore witness to the Watchers, the ones who sinned with the daughters of men because they began to mingle themselves with the daughters of men so that they might be polluted. And Enoch bore witness against all of them. And he was taken from among the children of men, and we led him to the garden of Eden for greatness and honor. And behold, he is there writing condemnation and judgement of the world, and all of the evils of the children of men. Jubilees 4;21

God transported him from that mountain to the land of life, to the mansions of the righteous and of the chosen, the abode of Paradise of joy, in light that reaches up to heaven; light that is outside the light of this world; for it is the light of God, that fills the whole world, but which no place can contain. Thus, because Enoch was in the light of God, he found himself out of the reach of death; until God would have him die. Cave of Treasures 141.

Christian teachers sometimes like to wipe the first Book of Enoch from the table with a single phrase from Col 2;18;

Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind. Col 2;18

... comfortably discarding any explanation of Gen 6; the sons of God marrying the daughters of Man, or 1 and 2 Peter, about fallen angels being locked in an underground prison, and Hebr 11; 5; about Henoch being taken up by God without seeing death. This warning in Colossians 2 sooner deals with the abundance of apocalyptic imitators dating from the two centuries B.C. then with this first Book of Enoch.

The Book Daniel dates from the same time and the first or Ethiopian Book of Enoch was considered important enough by the apostle Judas to quote from it;

And to these also Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, Behold, the Lord came with ten thousands of his holy ones, to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their works of ungodliness which they have ungodly wrought, and of all the hard things which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.  Jude 1;14

And behold! He comes with ten thousand Holy Ones; to execute judgment upon them and to destroy the impious, and to contend with all flesh concerning everything that the sinners and the impious have done and wrought against Him. 1Enoch1.9

The fact that the Bible itself quotes from the Book of Enoch (as from other books) is evidence that the book is a valid source for higher spiritual knowledge.

Enoch is famed for the part he took in the tragedy of the fallen angels a.k.a. the Watchers. Living during a time of great sins, around the flood, he had visited Heaven more than once. However, the time was ripe for a most significant trip. One night, two angels woke him up and commanded him to prepare for his journey.

On the first day of the month I was in my house alone and was resting on my bed and slept. And when I was asleep, great distress came up into my heart, and I was weeping with my eyes in sleep, and I could not understand what this distress was, or what would happen to me. And there appeared to me two men, exceeding big, so that I never saw such on earth; their faces were shining like the sun, their eyes too were like a burning light, and from their lips was fire coming forth, their appearance was abundantly dressed in various kinds of purple, their wings were brighter than gold, their hands whiter than snow. They were standing at the head of my bed and began to call me by my name. And I arose from my sleep and saw clearly those two men standing in front of me. And I saluted them and was seized with fear and the appearance of my face was changed from terror, and those men said to me: Have courage, Enoch, do not fear; the eternal God sent us to you, and lo! You shalt to-day ascend with us into heaven, and you shall tell your sons and all your household all that they shall do without you on earth in your house, and let no one seek you till the Lord return you to them. And I made haste to obey them and went out from my house, and made to the doors, as it was ordered me, and summoned my sons Mathusal and Regim and Gaidad and made known to them all the marvels those men had told me. 2Enoch1;3

Hence they took Enoch into the seventh heaven And those two men lifted me up thence on to the seventh heaven, and I saw there a very great light, and fiery troops of great archangels, incorporeal forces, and dominions, orders and governments, cherubim and seraphim, thrones and many-eyed ones, nine regiments, the Ioanit stations of light, and I became afraid, and began to tremble with great terror, and those men took me, and led me after them, and said to me: Have courage, Enoch, do not fear, and showed me the Lord from afar, sitting on His very high throne. For what is there on the tenth heaven, since the Lord dwells there? On the tenth heaven is God, in the Hebrew tongue he is called Aravat ("Father of creation.") 2Enoch 20

And Michael, one of the archangels, took me by my right hand, raised me up, and brought me out to where was every secret of mercy and secret of righteousness. He showed me all the hidden things of the extremities of heaven, all the receptacles of the stars, and the splendours of all, from whence they went forth before the face of the holy. And he concealed the spirit of Enoch in the heaven of heavens. There I beheld, in the midst of that light, a building raised with stones of crystal; And in the midst of these stone tongues of living fire. My spirit saw a circle of fire surrounding the house, and rivers full of living fire, were encompassing it.  Seraphim, Cherubim, and Ophanim surrounded it: these are those who never sleep, but watch the throne of his glory. And I beheld angels innumerable, thousands of thousands, and myriads and myriads, who surrounded that habitation. Michael, Raphael, Gabriel, Phanuel and the holy angels who were in the heavens above, went in and out of it. Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel went out of that habitation, and holy angels innumerable. With them was the Ancient of days, whose head was white as wool, and pure, and his robe was indescribable. Then I fell upon my face, while all my flesh was dissolved, and my spirit became changed. I cried out with a loud voice, with a powerful spirit, blessing, glorifying, and exalting. And those blessings, which proceeded from my mouth, became acceptable in the presence of the Ancient of days. The Ancient of days came with Michael and Gabriel, Raphael and Phanuel, with thousands of thousands, and myriads and myriads, which could not be numbered. Then that angel came to me, and with his voice saluted me, saying, You are the Son of man, who art born for righteousness, and righteousness has rested upon you.  1Enoch 70 (71) ;5

And the elders of the people, the whole assembly, came and bowed down and began to kiss Enoch and said to him: Our father Enoch, may you be blessed of the Lord, the eternal King, and now bless your sons and all the people, that we may be glorified to-day before your face. For you will be glorified before the Lord’s face for all time, since the Lord chose you, rather than all men on earth, and designated you to be the one who makes written record of all his creation (the scribe), visible and invisible, and the one who carried away the sins of mankind (the Savior), and helper of your own household. 2Enoch 64;3

According to the Book of Enoch, he was the same as the great Archangel Metatron.

When Enoch was transformed into Metatron, his body was turned into celestial fire-his flesh became flame, his veins fire, his bones glimmering coals, the light of his eyes heavenly brightness, his eyeballs torches of fire, his hair a flaring blaze, all his limbs and organs burning sparks, and his frame a consuming fire. To right of him sparkled flames of fire, to left of him burnt torches of fire, and on all sides he was engirdled by storm and whirlwind, hurricane and thundering. Ginzberg; 1;3

The hidden significance of Enoch

Hebr; Chanôkh; Trk; Ðdris (Idris) Gr. Enoch; Lat. Henoch

Among the Latter Day Saint movement and particularly in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Enoch is viewed as having founded an exceptionally righteous city, named Zion, in the midst of an otherwise wicked world. This view is encountered in the Mormon scripture (see Standard Works), the Pearl of Great Price and the Doctrine and Covenants, which states that not only Enoch, but the entire peoples of the city of Zion, were taken to Heaven without death, because of their piety. (Zion is defined as "the pure in heart" and this city of Zion will return to the earth at the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.) The Doctrine and Covenants further states that Enoch prophesied that one of his descendants, Noah, and his family, would survive a Great Flood and thus carry on the human race and preserve the Gospel. The Book of Moses in the Pearl of Great Price has several chapters that give an account of Enoch's preaching, visions and conversations with God. In these same chapters are details concerning the wars, violence and natural disasters in Enoch's day, and notable miracles performed by Enoch. The Book of Moses is itself an excerpt from Joseph Smith's translation of the Bible, which is published in full, complete with these chapters concerning Enoch, by Community of Christ, as the Holy Scriptures/Inspired Version of the Bible, where it appears as part of the Book of Genesis. D&C 104:24 (CofC) / 107:48-49 (LDS) states that Adam ordained Enoch to the higher priesthood (now called the Melchizedek, after the great high priest) at age 25, that he was 65 when Adam blessed him, and he lived 365 years after that until he was translated, so making him 430 years old when that occurred.

According to figurists (a group of Jesuit missionaries mainly leaded by Joachim Bouvet into China at the end of the 17th and the beginning of the 18th century and based on ideas of Matteo Ricci 1552 to 1610)[3][4][5], Fu Xi in China's ancient history is actually Enoch. He is a culture hero reputed to be the inventor of writing, fishing, and trapping. Traditionally, Fu Xi is considered the originator of the I Ching .

According to legend, the land was swept by a great flood and only Fu Xi and his sister Nüwa survived. They retired to Kunlun Mountain where they prayed for a sign from the Emperor of Heaven. The divine being approved their union and the siblings set about procreating the human race. It was said that in order to speed up the procreation of humans, Fu Xi and Nüwa found an additional way by using clay to create human figures, and with the power divine being entrusted to them, they made the clay figures to come alive.[1] Fu Xi then came to rule over his descendents although reports of his long reign vary between sources from 115 years (BCE 2852–2737) to 116 years (BCE 2952–2836).
