Hebrew; Lilum or Lilloth; children of the Night (Hebrew; Lailah) as opposed to children of the Light, or; children of Lillith as opposed to children of God.

Too many people, during their lifetimes, have to deal with anxieties, shame, guilt, false guilt, depressions, anger, stress, obsessive compulsions and all kinds of addictions, like drug addiction, video games, crime, alcoholism, compulsive overeating, problem gambling, computer addiction, pornography, other sexual addictions and what have you. These urges or fears sometimes are personified by the mind to that degree, that they are given a form and personality of their own and can become really annoying. The reason that they are bound to a certain person is that he is the one who created them in the first place. Which also means that he can get rid of them. "It's all between the ears" is what psychologists and doctors would say, and that is as far as they go with their explanation of it. The key is not to "feed" them with your attention. First try ignoring them and focusing your attention on something else. Go do something else then what you want to do because of your addiction, develop an interest in it and the other thing will gradually fade away along with their personifications of it.

These "spirits" are "born from" states of mind; things you're afraid of, longing for, or "in the mood for" beyond healthy limits and these urges can be pretty strong, so the main requirement to get rid of them is to alter your state of mind. Once you've altered your state of mind, they shouldn't be a problem anymore. Ignore them and focus your attention on something else.

The real "Demon" demons however (from Latin Daemon; from damnare: to condemn, damnatio: condemnation.) seem to be distinct individual personalities. The root of the Greek word Daimon, according to Plato, is derived from δαίμονες (daimones) which is derived from δαήμονες (daëmones) (wise ones; wizzards even), denoting very intelligent beings, appointed as leaders and guardians of mortal men; Watchers" (Cratylus 398 b) interpreting and transporting human things to the gods and divine things to men; entreaties and sacrifices from below, and ordinances and requitals from above." (Symposium 202e).

The Hellenistic Greeks divided daemons into good and evil categories: Eudaemons (also called Kalodaemons) or Agathodaemons; the indwelling of a good daemon, and Kakodaemons, the indwelling of a bad one.  Eudaemons resembled the Abrahamic idea of the guardian angel; they watched over mortals to help keep them out of trouble. Thus eudaemonia, originally the state of having a eudaemon, came to mean "well-being" or "happiness". A comparable Roman genius accompanied a person or protected and haunted a place (genius loci). It is the same as with us, people; there are good and bad people. This should tell you something about them; you're not necessarily dealing with a good and "guardian angel", an inner guide, just because he has done you a favor. You are just dealing with a soul who has a certain interest in you and who may very well have his own agenda.

Philosophers such as Plato divided the daimons into three classes, "the first two are invisible; their bodies are pure ether (Soul) and fire, like once was the case with Satan. 

The devil is of the lower places; he will become a demon because he fled from heaven. ... His nature didn't change but his thought did, since his consciousness of righteous and sinful things changed.  2(Slavonic) Enoch. 31;4

But Mastêma, which is Sataniêl, saw the honour that was given to Adam and he was greatly jealous. He stiffened his neck before the Lord and said unto the angels: "it befits not us to worship Adam, for he is virgin (parthenikos) of earth; but we are angels (formed) of flames of fire and honourable, (made) from the elements of fire, while he is earth from the earth." In Parsism, (Zoroastrianism) an Ashavan (Holy person) possesses Asha (fire, spirit, holiness or righteousness) that is his Farohar, his guardian angel, the inner Light. The daemon of Socrates parallels the Christian idea of the Guardian Angel.

The Daimons of the third class are clothed with vapory bodies; they are usually invisible, but sometimes, making themselves concrete, become visible for a few seconds.

Hesiod designated them as spirits of the golden age appointed to watch over and guard mankind.

While most Watchers remained Holy; Guardian angels, others fell and became known as Fallen Watchers or; Demons.

The Romans used the word Genius for inhabiting ancestral entities who would guide and protect one for better or for worse. This is to say that an inhabiting Genius wasn't necessarily a good thing to have. Genii were divided into benevolent "Lares" and malignant "Lemures" or "Larvae" , but were all connected with serpents.

The ancient Greeks and Romans themselves drew a sharp distinction between the daemones of more ethereal type, truly spiritual beings, and the lower earth-haunting daemones who were distinctly denizens of the lower astral and physical realms, and which the ancients dreaded -- with reason -- far more than modern Christians have ever done. Actually; Genii and Demons, in the original context, can all be classified as souls of deceased persons, whether human or not. Originally they were good entities; Watchers, until a lot of them developed an interest in the "daughters of Man" (Gen.6), and "mingled" with them. You would say, they'd have to be Human to be attracted to each other. They, together with their offspring called the Nephilim, (fallen ones) were wiped out in a Flood and became earth-bound spirits; they became evil spirits; demons.

These Watchers appear to be Alien races who came to Earth long before Mankind arose maybe because their home world was destroyed or because they were sent by an alliance. They defeated and banished the ruling race from earth which at that time seems to have been a reptile race that may have evolved from dinosaurs or had arrived long before that from elsewhere. They, the Alien races, lived here and were worshipped as often blue-skinned red haired gods ... occasionally died here or were wiped out along with their offspring, the Nephilim in the Great Flood and their souls are still meddling with our affairs.

Samael is called the leader of the serpent-like demons that, before they were defeated by angels, ruled the Earth long before Adam was assigned by God to rule the Earth.

 Zeus, (Azazel, Azael) stands for the angels linked to Orion; the combined souls of a race that (corporeally, incorporeally, or both) escaped destruction of their Home planet by descending to Earth and fell victim to the Yetzer ha Ra, that is; to Satan, and became the new ruling force on earth; the fallen angels; the Anunaki, Egypt, Mayan and Olympian gods (and then some).

Then said God: "I am well aware of it, and I know that if you inhabit the earth, the evil inclination (Yetzer ha Ra) will overpower you, and you will be more iniquitous than ever men." If soul-clusters like that turn evil, you end up with very strong and powerful demons that are often personified with Satan himself. The life-force; the soul houses in the blood, and the souls life-force is the Spirit. Since the Spirit is the life-force of a soul, and demons are cut off from this Spirit, they will look for nourishment elsewhere; by clinging on to humans for instance, like the parasites they are, or by making sure there is enough bloodshed at hand, by means of human sacrifices, crime and war to literally feed upon the life-force remaining in that blood. Demons in various ways draw energy from their victims, by feeding on strong emotions, sexual energy; whatever energy they can extract, which is the reason you suddenly may feel chilly when a demon is present.

Your soul is an energy based body, they literally feed on the "warmth" of your soul. These demons however cannot stand the energy emanating from God; his Holy Spirit; His Light. It is a bit like some people getting all goosepimply hearing the name of Jesus (ask yourself why that is). So, they feed on the lower energies available in the human soul. It has been suggested that from their astral state, they have managed to provoke humans into warfare and stressful situations of anger, hate and despair to extract theses emotional energies for their own purposes. Through the highly suggestive human consciousness, these negatively charged "energy leeches" or "psychic vampires", orchestrate and feast off situations of genocide, global conflict, drug usage (alcohol, amphetamines, cocaine, "uppers", etc.), sexual perversions and the wholesale slaughter of animal life (cattle, poultry, swine.) The blood of more than 800.000 sheep is spilled on the day of the Hadj in Mecca alone. It would stand to reason to expect demons to be present at events where there is much of this emotional energy available, such as Major sports events, Rock concerts. The very act of worshipping them provides them with energy, (which is why they like to be worshipped as gods) and, sadly enough, even some religious gatherings are welcome buffets to them. Some of these cults and sects ended in massive suicides, ...which also suits them fine.

And Uriel said to me: "The spirits of the Angels who were promiscuous with women will stand here; and they, assuming many forms, made men unclean and will lead men astray so that they sacrifice to demons as gods. And they will stand there until the great judgment day, on which they will be judged, so that an end will be made of them. 1Enoch 18.11

Demons often like to present themselves as the necessary counterpart in regulating the balance between good and evil by surfacing and amplifying the evil inside us. The latter may be true, they are satans and that's what they do. They aren't called accusers for nothing.

And he let me see Joshua, the high priest, in his place before the angel of the Lord, and the Satan at his right hand ready to take up a cause against him. Zec 3:1

They want to show our unworthiness to rule the earth instead of them; the old demons that is, mentioned below. In the end, all demons are earthbound ghosts; human or Alien souls without a body, who when they get stronger and more persistent, become satans; strong demons, always looking for a place to stay.

And as he stepped out on land, there met him a man from the city who had demons; for a long time he had worn no clothes, and he lived not in a house but among the tombs.  When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, "What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beseech you, do not torment me."  For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. (For many a time it had seized him; he was kept under guard, and bound with chains and fetters, but he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the desert.)  Jesus then asked him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Legion"; for many demons had entered him.  And they begged him not to command them to depart into the abyss.  Now a large herd of swine was feeding there on the hillside; and they begged him to let them enter these. So he gave them leave.  Then the demons came out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.  Luke 8; 27 RSV

Same as there are angels of church communities mentioned in the Bible,

   The angel of the church in Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamos, Re 2:1,8,12,etc.

which actually are the combined souls of that church, there also are demons that form clans or clusters. They stick together and form like Legions to become stronger powers.

But the unclean spirit, when he is gone out of a man, goes through dry places looking for rest, and getting it not. Then he says, I will go back into my house from which I came out; and when he comes, he sees that there is no one in it, but that it has been made fair and clean. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits worse than himself, and they go in and make it their living-place: and the last condition of that man is worse than the first. Mt 12;43, (Lu 11;26)

All in all, demons are deceased souls that, for some reason are reluctant to "go to the Light" and are looking for a place to stay, willing to "render service and assistance" as compensation. Some may do that to the best of their abilities, but that doesn't guarantee a wholesome result. Not in the eyes of God, it doesn't. Others are simply out for a good ride, or even out to get you or lure you into their "kingdom" or even rip you a part if you do not comply.

They enter through "holes" in the soul's aura, which is the radiance caused by the soul's own spirit; (a portion of God's radiant Holy Spirit vitalizing it) that functions as a protective shield against negative forces. These "holes" are caused by Fears, Anxieties, depressions, stress, neuroses and addictions etc. or; evil spirits to put it in Biblical terms. Actually they are our weaknesses. What else is fear than a lack of trust that, in the end, it'll be alright; a lack of trust in God's providence. This lack will show as a hole in your soul's aura.

Demons, "spiritual" beings as they are, don't eat french fries, mayonnaise and hamburgers and stuff like we do. They feed on energies. Once they entered a persons body, they literally feed of the energy of negative emotions like Despair, Anger, Hatred, Jealousy and so on, and will try to increase these emotions by exaggerating existing problems and negative self-images. Fear itself is only a portal to them. Unlike what is said of Elves, they do not feed on Fears, but will try to turn fears into Hatred, Anger and other negative emotions that they then feed on. People, suppressing their true feelings seem to give them the best results, because this "impurity" of feelings causes people to bottle up their emotions until the bomb bursts and all energy is released.  

Demons know seven levels of "consciousness"; they speak of themselves as being a "one", "two" "three, four five six, or a seven". Seven being the worst kind of wickedness, and may grow into formidable opponents (satans) that are strong and willing enough to, driven by the remembrance of certain lower urges, (led by Satan) want to meddle with earthly affairs, or experience the pleasures of earthly life (guna's) through another persons body. Or simply be a pain in the neck; sometimes literally. They are souls, mostly human souls that for some reason do not want to "go to the Light", where they might be sent back to a life as another personality, but want to experience life on their terms, on earth as human beings and need human bodies to do so. Or they just want to mess up some poor soul's life out of pure hatred and jealousy.

It would appear that demons; deceased souls, come in and "tickle" their victim until they get what they want, in order to experience the feeling of lust, hatred or the emotion of committing a murder, because they thrive on that. They cannot reincarnate, because they refuse to "go to the Light" to be judged and sent back; they would loose their present personality and so, instead, they cling on people to relive certain emotions they enjoyed during their own lifetimes.    

It also stands to reason that the best way to defend yourself against demons is to provide yourself with enough Holy Spirit, forming your personal spirit; your inner guide, or inner god if you will to shield them off.

Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Pr 30:5

(Iblis) said: "O my Lord! Because Thou hast put me in the wrong, I will make (wrong) fair-seeming to them on earth, and I will put them all in the wrong, -- "Except Thy servants among them, sincere and purified (by Thy grace)." Quran Sura 15;39 (al Hidjr)

Satan is the animal soul with its animal urges, but the real threat lies in malignant intelligent demons that are literally out to get you. Demons are also called satans. In Islam these demons are called Shaitans or Jinns.

Serpent-like demons are said to rule in the lowest regions of Hell; Tartaros, where they feed by hatefully inflicting all kinds of torment on the lost human souls that have descended there. Hindus known of so-called Naga's, "snake people that live in underground cities. In our parts they were mostly called dark Trolls and Elves (shades).
